Andre Johnson, Attorney

Andre Johnson joined Nashville Defenders in February 2023. Before joining Nashville Defenders, Dre practiced in Knoxville. Dre is a “Jamerican.” Dre spent his formative years in Jamaica before migrating to Long Island, New York. Dre holds a BA in History and Linguistics from the University of the West Indies, Mona, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, a Master of Laws, and a Juris Doctorate from Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University.

Dre is passionate about indigent representation. Dre’s philosophy is that competent, zealous representation should not be based on the number of zeros that an individual can write on a check.

In 2019, Dre was awarded the Nassau County Criminal Courts Bar Association Leon Stern Award for safeguarding and protecting the rights of indigent clients.

Dre is a graduate of the 2019 Gideon’s Promise class. Dre is a member of the NAACP Legal Redress Committee (Nashville Chapter), a member of the Napier-Looby Bar Association, the Nashville Bar Association, The Black Public Defenders Association, and The National Association of Public Defenders.

Dre is an avid pickleball player, spartan racer, marathoner, and gym enthusiast.
